Brook Street Film
With our works on 73-75 Brook Street now complete, check out this promotional film created by our client Clivedale London, showcasing the finished building. As one of London’s finest business addresses this development in Mayfair provides over 31,000 sq/ft of flexible commercial space and luxury facilities. Our role as delivery architect saw the construction of the building and its interiors which, as the film displays, has been executed to the highest of standard.
Facade development in Scotland
Kyson have completed the refinement of a facade for a new hotel development in Scotland. Horizontal datum lines reflect a modern interpretation of the classical orders of architecture, with each datum providing a shift in elevational treatment as the number of windows increases. Angled soffits and side panels converge on their respective window frames to provide an increased level of depth and articulation to the elevation.
Design completed for a new home in Harrogate
Kyson have recently completed the concept design for a new replacement dwelling in Yorkshire. This project demonstrates how a new house can be exceptional in design quality whilst at all times showing respect to and understanding of the historic vernacular. To maintain the integrity of the surrounding historic building stock this proposal recognises its place along the timeline of history. Rather than seeking to emulate architecture of a time gone by, it is designed instead to be ‘of its time’; that is an innovative piece of architecture that reflects the identity of its local surroundings in a beautiful manner that remains true to its original intentions.
Minimalist design in a grade II listed Home
We are nearing completion of the renovation and extension of a Grade II listed home in North Hampstead originally designed by renowned Victorian architect Charles Quennell. This project has allowed us to explore the careful relationship between old and new, marrying together the historical features of the existing building with the minimalist detailing asked of us by the client. One of the most dramatic spaces in the house is that of the swimming pool located in the basement.
ITF Phase 2 now Complete
The second phase of our Grade II listed International Transport Worker’s Federation headquarters in Borough, London is now complete. The renovation of the historically sensitive building sees all new services subtly concealed within the existing structure to allow the original features to be celebrated such as the original Victorian steelwork with exposed riveting.
Architects Qualify
Studio Kyson are pleased to announce that John Chia and Krista Silina have both recently qualified as Architects following many years of study. Congratulations to you both for reaching this significant milestone.
2020 Summary of Works
The last 12 months has in many ways been like no other, but despite the disruption caused by the Covid19 pandemic we are thankful to have been able to continue designing and building beautiful architecture throughout the year. Here is a summary of our architectural achievements for 2020.
Nearing Completion At Brook Street
We are nearing the final stages of our Brook Street office development in the prestigious Mayfair area of London. The scaffold was recently taken down to reveal our zinc mansard roof.
ITF Phase 2 Nearing Completion
We are nearing completion on the second phase of our refurbishment of the Grade II listed International Transport Worker’s Federation headquarters in Borough, London. All new services are sensitively concealed within the existing structure to allow the original features to be celebrated.
Heath Drive Excavation
Works on our Grade II listed residence in Hampstead are well underway with the basement excavation nearing completion. This full house renovation, reordering and extension project sees the sensitive introduction of modern services and technologies within the historic building fabric.
MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT
Studio Kyson has been appointed to design an exciting mixed-use masterplan project in Tower Hamlets that incorporates commercial and retail units within a larger-scale residential development. A variety of concentric circular forms, informed by local landmarks, dictate the buildings’ footprints, and continue into the facade compositions. We look forward to sharing more as the project develops.
WINNERS OF THE 40UNDER40 EUROPEAN AWARDS
We are pleased to announce that director Scott Kyson been listed as a winner of The European Centre’s 40Under40 Award 2019-2020. More information on can be found here.
FLORIDIAN VILLA UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Our lakeside villa in Orlando, Florida is under construction. Formed of a series of stone-clad slabs the design utilises technology in concrete that has been developed in commercial car parks to maximise column-free spans and cantilevers. The result is an impressively spacious property affording panoramic views across the nearby lake.
BUILDING COLOURING COMPETITION WINNERS
Well done to all who entered our colouring competition. We received lots of entries from all different ages and from across the country. It is wonderful to see our buildings come alive in such creative ways! Congratulations to the winners whose entries can be seen here.
BUILDING COLOURING COMPETITION
With everyone stuck indoors with little to do, we want to encourage children across the UK to make the most of this time and get creative! So we have set up an Instagram competition challenging children to colour in our buildings.
A PLACE IN THE MEDITERRANEAN SUN
Kyson have recently completed the conceptual design for a minimalist home set high up in the Mediterranean hills of south-east Spain. The structure projects up from its setting and defiantly apposes its landscaped surroundings. Standing as a monolithic structure the building is formed of a series of clearly defined zonal spaces where vast walls and ascetic room layouts allude to the vastness of the Mediterranean setting beyond.
NEW BOND STREET RENOVATION
Kyson are pleased to be appointed for the renovation of a 19th Century terrace building on the world-renowned and famously affluent New Bond Street. The property displays ornate Victorian embellishments and detailing. This project sees the internal reordering of the lower ground floors and the sensitive introduction of a two storey retail frontage in order to maximise its presence in a setting where retail accommodation is priced at a premium.
HOTEL SCHEME IN GLASGOW
Kyson are progressing the design of a new hotel in the business district of Glasgow and are due to present the design at a Public Consultation event later this month. The design sets out to reflect the historic use of steel frames in commercial buildings first pioneered in Glasgow following the Industrial Revolution. Slender structural frames introduce a rhythmic articulation to each elevation whilst subtle changes in detailing provide moments of change as the facade progresses upwards.
