PROJECT 087
Fairmead, Epping Forest
Set within the Green Belt beside Epping Forest, this substantial family home sits within a particularly sensitive landscape, adjoining land designated as both a Site of Special Scientific Interest and Special Area of Conservation.
The house is conceived as a restrained contemporary interpretation of classical principles, with symmetry, proportion and hierarchy used to establish a calm and formal composition within its rural setting. Architecture, landscape and planning strategy were developed together from the outset, enabling a complex proposal with a difficult planning history to ultimately secure approval under delegated powers.
