FORest HOUSE

Set within the former grounds of a Grade II listed Manor House, this dwelling takes inspiration from the existing features of the site; the trees and undergrowth, the existing garden wall boundary, along with reference to the historic principles of walled gardens.

A creative form, articulated with a creative palette of sustainable materials and influenced by its surroundings, the proposal reflects the highest standards of architectural design with the aim of significantly enhancing the immediate setting. The building form takes on a strong, elliptical form of curved edges contrasted against the rigid, linear nature of the historic garden walls. The elliptical form, finished in vertical brick columns create an elegant colonnade; a modern interpretation of the traditional pergola-ed colonnades typical of a Victorian walled garden.

Through extensive native species planting and a provision of extensive new habitats and ecosystems, the proposal provides the site with an increased level of biodiversity.
