SCRUTTON STREET, SHOREDITCH

Originally a printworks building located on the edge of Shoreditch, we undertook the conversion of this building to include a free-flowing, functional and inviting family home. The single-storey concrete frame of the original print building was retained and consolidated with a new lightweight steel-framed structure that continued the same grid for the additional floors. Using as much natural material as possible, the primary palette incorporates a mixture of white-soaped French oak and Welsh slate.

A combination of bespoke integrated furniture, and simple free-standing pieces add up to create a functional family living space where the open plan nature allows for the adjoining kitchen to overlook the main living area. The apartment continues to spill out on to an outdoor entertaining area and playspace, overlooking London’s financial district. Deep raised planter beds have been built into the scheme to allow for growth of a variety of salads, herbs and vegetables.
